INDUSTRIES FAIR
Record Crowd Expected A record crowd of 150,000. 20.000 more than last year, is expected to attend the New Zealand Industries Fair, which will open next week. The secretary-manager of the fair (Mr R. T. Alston) said that about 10,000 persons were expected each day, as major races and football matches about that time would draw many visitors to the city and schools would be on holiday. For the first time special entertainment—a high-pole act—was being flown from England for the show, he said. An unprecedented number of applications for floor space had resulted in over-selling, and the accommodation of the 150 exhibitors who had booked space was now a problem. About 6000 sq. ft. of floor space had been allocated. About 300 persons had been working for the last week preparing the grounds and building, and a fire sprinkler system had been installed at a cost of £7OOO. “It is now one of the few public buildings which comply with the regulations in this respect,” he said. A considerable amount had also been spent on public amenities.
