Obituary MR A. MILLER

Mr Alexander Miller, who died at his home at 34 Shakespeare road this week was well known in Scottish affairs. He was 85. Born in Wick. Caithness, Scotland, Mr Miller fought in the Boer War with the 2nd Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders, and in World War I. On his return from the Boer War, Mr Miller was a colour sergeant at Queen Victoria’s jubilee celebrations in London. Later he was presented with the freedom of the Royal Burgh of Wick. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, No. 466, of Scotland. Mr Miller came to New Zealand in 1922. Until his retirement he was sexton at the Addington Cemetery. He was a member of the North Canterbury and West Coast Piping and Dancing Centre for more than 20 years, a life member of the Scottish Society of New Zealand, and a vice-president of the Scottish Society Highland Pipe Band for 16 years. Mr Miller is survived by his wife, six daughters, and four sons.
