LUNCH-HOUR CONCERT

Violin And Piano Recital

Tereaa Bevan and Maurice Till gave a violin and piano recital in the University Hall yesterday to end the winter season of notable concerts given there.

pie programme began with Schubert’s Sonatina, Opus 137 No. 3. This is a work of sunshine and mellow joy and was so played Mrs Bevan produces tone which has life and is warmly vibrant. The phrasing was secure and shapely, with debcate and interesting nuances. Broadly flowing legato style, purposeful rhythm, and immaculate intonation were a joy to hear. Mr Tfll played, as always, not only with complete accuracy. but with heightened imagination and unfailing sense of all stylistic requirements. There w».« close co-operation between the players at all times, not only in technical matters, but in poetic interpretation The Brahms Sonata in G, Opus 78. brought from both artists dramatic, poetic, wellknit and deeply felt playing. The fustamed song-like character of the second movement was interpreted most graciously. There was relaxed happiness to the W movement The tenatOM of the first two had been wiped away. and this sang triumphantly. Strong and . vivid playing w»s beard both in tone and in rhythm, with wide expression and shapely moulding. This was a satisfying and charming performance —C.FB.
