SHAVINGS FIRE

Attendant Dies In Blaze (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. August 9. A boiler attendant died while trying to put out a fire in a shavings hopper at a Te Papaipa timber mill today He was: Wilfred Basil Wood, aged 66. of Selwyn road, Howick The hopper at Smith and Smith, Ltd's timber mill in Mays road, burst into flames shortly before 2 pm Mr Wood tried to bring the fire under control with a hose and is believed to have been overcome by fumes Firemen from the Ellerslie and Onehunga brigades put out the fire, which was confined to the hopper.

Mr Wood was dead when he was brought down from the hopper room.
