NO TRACE OF MISSING BOY

Police Watch River Outlet (N.Z. Press Association) GISBORNE, August 9. A Gisborne police party returned tonight after the second all-day fruitless search for four-year-old Rex Martin, missing since Tuesday afternoon from Awapapa station, Hangaroa. Today, the Wairoa police were advised to watch the Wairoa river outlet, the Hangaroa river, into which the Mangawehi stream, near Awapapa station, empties, and the Ruatikuri river link at Te Reinga, to become the Wairoa river. The police will continue the search tomorrow and Saturday, and a full scale combing of the river on Sunday is under consideration. The boy was last seen when playing near the bank of the flood swollen Mangawehi stream. A rubber dinghy was used for dragging operations along the stream and the river. The search was hampered by the large amount of driftwood swept down by the flooding stream.
