WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. A 8.8. C. Television team arrived in Wellington today to make programmes on New Zealand’s attitude towards the Common Market for screening in Britain, said the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) in the House of Representatives today. Mr N. E. Kirk (Opposition, Lyttelton) said a 25-minute programme in Britain was designed to influence the British people in favour of British membership of the E.E.C He asked Mr Holyoake whether he could consult with the Prime Ministers of Australia, Canada and Malaya to present the views of the peoples ani Governments of the Commonwealth. Mr Holyoake said Mr H. D. Wheeler was directing the 8.8. C. team, and was accompanied by Mr Robin Day, a
well-known 8.8. C. interviewer. The team had spent some time in Australia preparing suitable programmes. “Needless to say, the Government is doing everything possible to help Mr Wheeler and Mr Day find out what New Zealanders feel about the possible effects on this country if Britain should decide to join the E.E.C.,” he said. “While they are here they will have the opportunity to interview representatives of the producer boards, the Federation of Labour, and leaders of other representative groups, members of Parliament and the Leader of the Opposition. “Arrangements are also being made to assist the team to tour certain farming and industrial areas in the North Island before its departure from New Zealand next Thursday.”
