Traffic Lanes
Sir,—Now that Christchurch is at last introducing the. modern system of traffic lanes, perhaps the traffic department could explain to local drivers the elementary rules of lane discipline., They are obviously not understood a 4 present. The stretch of Moorhouse avenue by the Railway Station is a good example, ' Cars and heavy trucks weave from one lane to another without apparent reason and certainly without any attempt at signalling their intentions. Many straddle the white lines and effectively block two lanes Even where turning lanes are clearly marked, far too many drivers use the wrong lanes. This can be seen at most traffic lights. All these practices are dangerous and show a low standard of driving skill. Who knows? Some day we may have a northern motorway and a knowledge of lane driving will become even more important. It is time to start forming the right habits now—Yours, etc.. FREEWAY. August 8. 1932.
