ARMY IN REVOLT
Argentine Unrest (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 9. Argentina’s Defence Minister, Mr Jose Luis Cantilo, today took over as provisional Army Secretary after an army rebellion. The revolt led to the resignation of the Army Secretary and commander-in-chief, General Juan Batista Loza. General Loza’s resignation was accepted late last night by President Jose Maria Guido after General Federico Toranzo Montero, the army commander in the northern province of Salta, had rebelled and declared himself army commander-in-chief with the support of most army chiefs. General Toranzo Montero established his headquarters in Jujuy, capital of Argentina’s northernmost province, and was reported to have the support of the Mendoza, Cordoba, Comodoro, Rivadavia, and La Plata garrisons. All rebel officers in Buenos Aires and the provinces made it clear the rebellion was not directed against the government of President Guido, but was an internal army question.
