FREE ENTRY OF FRUIT
Board Hopeful Of EEC. (NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND. August 8. The Apple and Pear Marketing Board is hopeful that when Britain’s negotiations over toe Common Market are completed, toe bulk of New Zealand export fruit will still have free entry into England. But the chairman of the board (Mr J. H. Parker) warned Auckland fruitgrowers at a conference at Henderson today that the next few years would be difficult whether Britain entered the Common Market or not. “At present, we have free entry into the British market and 60 per cent, of our exports go to Britain Another 30 per cent, goes to Europe, while only 10 per cent, goes to other parts of the world," said Mr Parker. The board was searching for new markets, however, and at present New Zealand apples and pears were being shipped to 30 countries The United States, Hawaii and Venezuela looked very promising, but it would be many years before these markets would grow to the size of those in Britain and the Continent.
