DEMAND FOR WOOL
Prediction By Department (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 8. World demand for wool this year should ensure a reasonably satisfactory level of prices, said the annual I report of the Department of Industries and Commerce, presented in the House of Representatives today. The outlook for meat, butter and cheese was not so satisfactory, though the United Kingdom decision to limit total butter imports for the year ending March 31, 1963, should ensure a price nearer to an economic level than the 1961 average of only 256 s a cwt., said the report. New Zealand’s prospects of increasing exports of meat and dairy produce to Europe seemed to be reduced even further by the agricultural oolities being adopted by the European Eiconomic Community. “This emphasises New Zealand’s concern in the current negotiations as to the terms of the United Kingdom's proposed entry into the E.E.C.,” said the report. A more encouraging feature was the steady progress made in developing markets in Asia and Africa, helped by the activities of the producer boards, the establishment of new trade commissioner offices, trade surveys, advertising and displays of New Ze-iand produce.
