Buying Beyond Means (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 5. Canadian domestic sales promotion and the inducement to buy had reached a dangerously high standard and the temptation led the average wage earner jo buy beyond his means, said Mr N J. Clarke in Auckland yesterday. Addressing selling and marketing executives, Mr Clarke said the Canadian authorities realised the need for sterner control and the problem was being attacked at high school level. Student® were being instructed in home budget control and being taught the value of money and the limits to which they should commit themselves. Mr Clarke was one of 10 New Zealanders who attended the .Duke of Edinburgh’s study conference in Canada in May. He sold it was depressing to find that half a million people, or 10 par cent, of toe population were unemployed Unemployment in some areas was 60 per cent, of the work force because of the closing down or resiting of a major industry.
