TROTTING Three Young Trotters In Team At Addington
The Addington trainer, R. Young, will have an unusually strong team of young trotters this season. Already he has two three-year-olds working at this gait, and a third will join his team shortly. In addition a greater number of other trainers than usual have three-year-old trotters in work and their presence should help strengthen the slow-class trotters’ races, which reached a fairly low standard towards the end of last term.
Two of the three-year-old trotters to be prepared this season by Young have been named. They are Anstey’s Cove and Flying Nominee. The other is by Flying Song from Acclamation.
Anstey's Cove was purchasd by Young after she h-ad competed in a parade at the Canterbury Park meeting in May. Originally raced as a pacer, she wa® converted to the trot after breaking and losing all chance at the start of the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes at Wafrnate in December.
She showed aptitude at the trotting gait and beifore the Canterbury Park meeting she worked with great dash at Addington when dtivefc by her th'en trainer, T. H Gleeson. ■ Anstey's Cove eould develop iiito a top-class trotter. She is. by Dalewen fJasedale Grattan—Berwen) from the Gamble mare, Gwen Gamble.
Flying Nominee, which was produced at trials but did not start in the parade at Addington in May. showed ability : in the little work he had last season. He is a gelding by Flying Song from Oaktree, a Quite Sure mare which is also the dam of Oakleigh Lad. Oaktree was a moderate winner *at the trotting
ga.it. The gelding, by Flying Song from Acclamation, was in work for a time last season before being put aside to mature. He showed plenty of natural. trotting ability, which is not surprising as his dam was one of the outstanding trotting . mares racing about 12 years ago. Acclamation's many wins included the New Zealand Trotting Stakes.
The Acclamation gelding is a half-brdther to Clackmannan and Clamour. He could develop into a topclass performer later on. The third three-year-old is a filly by Smokey Hanover, which has been represented by few trotters,, from the pacing mare. Petite Yvohne. by U. Scott. Spencer, a brother to the filly, also favours the pacing gait. This filly was educated a_s a pacer in the Auckland district. but it was quickly found that she was a natural trotter. It was then decided to send her south to be prepared by Young. None Entered Young will not be represented at the New Zealand I Metropolitan Trotting Club’s national meeting, which
opens on Saturday week at ■Addington. 1 but he will probably have Avante. Our Jimmy and Graeme Scott to represent him at the New Brighton Trotting Club's meeting? next month. Avante. the winner of four races and £l6BO in stakes last season, has done well since last he raced. The Forward four-year-old looks to have a bright future
Our Jimmy, which races best when fresh, was disappointing towards the end of last season. He is carrying plenty of surplus condition at present, but should soon be in good shape to start another campaign Graeme Scott was placed in two of his three starts last season before going amiss He is quite sound again now and should not be long extending his already useful record in New Zealand.
Scotsburn, Countess Hanover, and Thermal are to rejoin the team . shortly Countess Hanover won four races last season and looks capable ot further successes, particularly over. distances of dp to 13 furlongs. Thermal, a four-year-old by Stormyway from Thelma Globe, was a little disappointing on occasions last season He has plenty of ability and could well develop useful form later on. A three-year-old filly by Flying Song from Palometer locks a grand type of pacer. She is raced by her Sydney breeder, Mr H. R Brien. Slie is a half-sister to Casameter, Shirley Dillon
and Graeme Scott, all of which have been successful at the trotting gait. Young also has some unrated young pacers in work or due to join the team shortly. A colt by Brahman from Overture looks a likely type of pacer. Overture was by Medoro from Harmonist, a Quite Sure mare, which won at the trotting gait. A colt by My Chief from Gala Giri is to join the team shortly. He looked cheap at the 190gns paid for him at the last yearling sales.
