Motor-Cycling MOORE TO RETURN
Intends To Stay In N.Z. (N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) LONDON, August 6 The New Zealand speedway star, Ronnie Moore—twice world champion and crowd-drawing favourite at Wimbledon for seven years—would return to New Zealand at the end of Britain's present speedway season and was unlikely to come back to Britain, the “Evening News” said today. In recent months he had been riding with a displaced bone in his right wrist, the newspaper said. But this was “not the reason for his shock decision to quit bigtime racing after a spectacular career which has thrilled millions ” The newspaper quotes Moore as having said: “I have just had a bouse built in Christchurch and feel I can make more money in New Zealand—-not necessarily frem the speedway. “I am going home with the idea of staying. Unless something startling happens in English speedway, it will not be worth my while to return “In New Zealand I will stilt compete in odd meetings ” Writing about Moore, the “Evening News,” in a frontpage story, said: “Meanwhile, this popular Wimbledon skipper has postponed an operation on his wrist sc «that he can help the club tn their bid to retain the National League (speedway) Champior.ship “He has again qualified fir the world championship final at Wembley on September 8 “Moore won the world title in 1954 and 1959 Father of twin daughters. Kim and Lea, he toured New Zealand last close season, and became champion of his native country for the second time"
