INCIDENT INQUIRY

‘Turner Was Shocked’

D Turner, captain of the British Rugby League team who was ordered off in Saturday's ma.tch against a New Zealand thirteen, appeared before an emergency meeting of the New Zealand council after the game when a full inquiry into the incident was held. Those to attend besides Turner were the president of the council (Dr. D. L. Cooney), a council member (Mr W. F. Moyle), the assistant manager of the British team <Mr A. Walker) and the referee <Mr P. Yaxley). The inquiry was held in committee and its decision will be forwarded to a meeting of the New Zealand coun. cil in Auckland this evening. Turner, who was ordered off in the match against Queensland and in the third test on the tour of Australia, would make no comment after the game. He was not chosen in the team which played West Coast a>t Greymouth yesterday.

Turner was reluctant to leave the field because he did not realise he had been sent off, Mr Wayker said after the match. “He was shocked that such a thing happened. He was not determined to stay on. he was just confused by the referee's action." B. E. Castle, who was the New Zealand player involved in the incident, said that Turner had used a stiff arm tackle, but it did not warrant sending him off.
