Hely May Ride Blue Rock
The Cambridge jockey. J. H. Hely, will probably ride Blue Rock in the Jumpers’ Flat at Riccarton today. Blue Rock won the Jumpers' Flat-Grand National Hurdles double when he was brought to Riccarton last year. C. I. Goss, who rode him in those races, will ride Blue Rock’s stablemate, Hippology, this year. J. R. Potter will ride Count Un. another Awapuni horse in the Jumpers’ Flat. Count Un is owned and trained by T. H. Knowles, who is making his first trip to Riccarton in seven years. Since he was last at Riccarton Knowles has won a Melbourne Cup with Hi-Jinx and some valuable races with the brilliant sprinter. Karina. The Blenheim-trained Prince Command, another Jumpers’ Flat candidate, was given a run over the standard hurdles at Riccarton yesterday. He jumped cleanly for K. Quayle, who will ride him today and who won two races on him at Riccarton last Easter. Prince Command Is trained by R. B. Taylor, who said yesterday that starts for Silver Wood (Paparua Handicap) and Wyebank (Winter Cup) were not certain. The track might be too heavy for Wyebank. Silver Wood a light-weight in the first leg. was to have travelled south on Thursday but plans had to be changed, because her owner. Mr J. A. Fowlef who was to bring her, had influenza. Brianbra and Slatey are not certain starters in the Trial Hurdles today Slatey bruised a foot recently and Brianbra injured his off hind leg G. E. Lowry will ride Brianbra if he runs and C. Creagh will have the mount on Slatey. B. J. Langford has been engaged to ride Daysun. Nafanua will probably be a dominating favourite for the Trial Hurdles. He is a brilliant jumper and a strong front-run-ner with winning form over two miles, so he should take beating over a mile and threequarters
