Simons And Hill Play Well A remarkably ea*y win tor the Chriatchuich plaker, M. J. Simons, over B. J. Rippin (Timaru), and a fine performance b v P. M. IUU. who took a game from K. R Green, were features of tiie early matches in the South Island squash rackets championships, which began last night. First round matches were completed in the A and B grade championship*, and in the handicap event, and local players met with mixed fortune. In addition to Simons. P. L. Mackenzie and G. A. Davldaon have reached the quarterfinals. G. C. P. Beadd did weU to take 16 points from the top seed and New Zealand champion, C. Waugh. But L. G. Milne could not match the fine all-round play of the new South Island selector, W. A. Green tTimaru), and was never able to settle down, giving a very disappointing performance. The championahlps wIU continue with quarter-final matches played this morning and semifinals tonight, with the A gride final scheduled for 11.15 a m. on Sunday Results were:— Championship.—First round C.
