RISE IN GAME RESEARCH SEEN FOR DEERSTALKING

(New Zealand Press Association)

MASTERTON, Aug. 3. Research was destined to play an ever-increasmg part in the New Zealand Deerstalkers' Association’s wildlife programme, the association president, Mr Athol Hood, of Blenheim, told the annual conference in Masterton today. “I sincerely hope that in the foreseeable future the New Zealand Forest Service will recognise the value of the work we are trying to do. and that the combined information we have gained will be pooled for tjie good of the big game animals and of New Zealand," he said. In many areas of New Zealand the animal population had Shown a marked decline, but the trophy value of the animals had improved as the numbers decreased. The decrease could bring about a changed type of hunting among members, said Mr Hood, from the outlook where quantity was the main requisite to one of quality. Last year, branches had been formed at Whangarei, Upper Hutt and North Taranaki. he said. There were

now 41 branches, with a total financial! membership of about 6000.
