Lemon Prices

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. August 3. The Minister of Agriculture iMr Tayboysi in answer to a question by Mr W. Fox 'Opposition. Miramar) said in the House of Representatives that he would not agree to lemons being subject to price control. Mr J B Gordon (Government. Clutha) had expressed concern that lemons were retailing at Is 9d a pound in the southern South Island Yet it was reported that the Citrus Marketing Authority had 17.000 cases in stock for which the grower received less than 6d a pound Mr Taiboys replied that growers received 20s a- case for lemons. Cost of packing, grading, curing and storage totalled another 10s 6d. and freight was 9s. The total of 39s a case was equivalent to Is 2d a pound to the retailer.
