ON WAY TO RECOVERY
Mr Hackett’s Condition (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 2. The Deputy-Leader of the Opposition (Mr Hackett) is making satisfactory progress in Auckland Hospital after undergoing a brain operation there on July 25. He was out of bed for 20 minutes on Wednesday and for the same period today and is expected to remain in hospital for another three weeks. The operation was necessary to relieve pressure on the brain which had caused Mr Hackett severe headaches for some time. He will be allowed to return to bis home as soon as this move is considered expedient It is likely that he will then attend hospital as an out-patient for several weeks for further necessary medical treatment. This information was given today by Dr. A. H. Hackett, a surgeon at Rotorua Hospital. Dr. Hackett said his father was not expected to return to Parliament for some months.
His assumption of full political duties, he said, would depend on his»rate of progress.
