BILLETING OF PUPILS

Code Of Parents’ Rights A code explaining the authority which could be exercised by billeting parents over visiting students is to be suggested to the principals of schools concerned by the headmaster of the Cashmere High School (Mr T. H. McCombs). The code he envisaged would state the extent of the rights of control which parents should have over visitors and would tell pupils the standard of behaviour expected. It would also be useful in informing the parents of the travelling children of the standard of supervision which could be expected, Mr McCombs said at a meeting of the school board of governors. The code would be distributed to pupils and parents concerned. Such a code had been used with marked success for inter, college visits between Germany and Britain, and although inter-school visits were much shorter here problems of control still occurred, he said. A code of this type would be a boon to the parties concerned. said Mrs K. E. Blunt, as billeting persons were often too reticent in asserting authority over visiting Children. They should be controlled in the same manner as one’s own children she said. Mr McCombs will report to toe next meeting after discussing the possibilities of a Joint publication with other headmasters. A total of 330 entries had been received for the school certificate examination—about 100 more than usual, said Mr McCombs in his report. The increase was caused by the extra hundred pupils which the school had taken at the request of toe Education Board at toe time of the opening of Hillmorton High School, he said. For the university entrance examination 81 entries were. received An excellent response had been made by the Education Board to the school's renovation and building needs, he said. The considerable volume of work under way included toe starting of the new assembly hall and staff room, the installation of conveniences near the school swimming baths, and general maintenance about the college A contract had been let for the building of a deep diving pool, and part of the school was expected to be painted soon.
