AVIATION ESSAY CONTEST

Papanui H.S. Girl Wins Lorraine Carrington, a pupil at Papanui High School, has been declared the winner of the essay competition organised by the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand division of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Open to fifth-formers attending North Canterbury secondary schools, the subject was: “How the advance of aviation over the next 25 years will affect New Zealand." Tile president of the New Zealand division (Mr A. J Smaille) said that the presentation of £5 plus £lO worth of books to the winner’s school library would be made soon. Second prize went to Claire Keys, of Christchurch Girls’ High School and third prize to D. M. Baillie, of -Christchurch West. Judges were Mr G S Troup, of Canterbury University. Mr M. A. Roper, chairman of the Canterbury branch of the society, and Mr Smaille. Nine entries were received from six Canterbury schools.
