MAGISTRATE’S COURT

UNLICENSED R.XDIOS Charged with having un. licensed radios, the following were convicted and fined:— Adair Aspeotis, £2; Leonard Hunia Barr. £2; James Hector Blair, £2; Martha Buckingham, £2; Mavis Caroline Clarkson. £2: William Ronald Dane, £1: Emily Dickinson. £2: Donald Henry Frame. £2; Mavis Grieve. £1: Edigar Robert Worden Parker. £1; Mild Perkovic. costs only: Clarence Oswald Ryder. £l. NO TV LICENCE For having no television licence on or about October 24, Byron Hedley Nixon was convicted and fined £5. He did not appear. Joseph Murray, a Post Office inspector, said the machine was bought in July. 1961. To the the witness said that a civil claim could be brought for unpaid licence fees. CHARGE DISMISSED A charge against Jega Gopal (Mr A. Hearn) of having an unlicensed radio in November, 1961, was dismissed. Gopa-L who pleaded not guilty, said the radio had not been used for six months and he had no intention of having it repaired. . REMANDED Clifford Phillip Edward Moore, aged 51, was remanded to August 6 on a charge of being idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of suoport, at Amberley on July 31. William John Best, aged 43. charged with inducing an indecent act to be committed on July 30. was remanded on bail until August 10. UNREGISTERED DOG On a charge of keeping an unregistered dog on or about March 20. Lawrence Jaipes Reeves was convicted , and fined £2. He did not appear. Mr J. G. Hutchison appeared for the Waimairi County Council. which brought the charge. 'Before Mr A. P. Blair. S.M.) JURISDICTION DECLINED Declining jurisdiction, the Magistrate committed Wilfred Phillip Cranston to the Supreme Court for sen'ence on charges of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 12 and indecent assault on a female. The offences occurred in February and March. Cranston pleaded guilty to the charges on July 24. and was appearing for sentence
Course For Gangers.— Twenty experienced railway replacement gangers are attending at Tauranga the first school held in New Zealand to improve rail-laying techniques. More satisfactory methods of track replacement would be evolved, said the Hamilton resident engineer of the Railways Department (Mr L. G. Crawford).—(PA.)
