HEAVY VOTING RECORDED
Keen Education Board Contest
Voting wag heavy yesterday in elections for the Canterbury Education Board but. as papers with yesterday’s postmark will be received for some days from places as far away as Haast, results w.ll not be known for a
Intense interest is being taken by school committees in the election in the Christchurch combmed group of wards where there are seven nominations for three seats.
Sitting members standing are Mr A. Greenwood (chairman of the board* and Mrs M. E. Holland (its first
woman member). Mr C. S. Thompson is retiring after 42 -.ears’ service.
New nominees are Messrs H C. Anderson. F. A. Betts
J. Palmer, and W. Rosenberg ■ prominent executive members of the CanterburySchool Committees’ Association* and Mr W. J. Cartwright <recer»tlv-retired headmaster of the Elmwood Normal School).
Indications are that there may be an upset in this election. Delegates to the Canterbury School Committees’ Association have changed considerably in the last few years and it is possible that a good number of committees 'in which each member has a vote) will favour new blood. Whatever the result. it is certain that voting will be close.
