LONDON, July 17. The Prime Minister of Malaya (Tunku Abdul Rahman) today had “very cordial” talks with the British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) on the greater Malaysia project. The Tunku said after a one-hour private meeting with Mr Macmillan that they had agreed that their respective delegations would thrash out the constitutional details in daily meetings and report to the two Prime Ministers.
The Malayan and British Prime Ministers met immediately in advance of formal British-Malayan Ministerial discussions on the new plan.
The subject was the proposal for a federation of Greater Malaysia which envisages a political and economic union of the Federation of Malaya. Singapore, North Borneo. Sarawak and Brunei and their estimated 10 million people.
Dr. Askwith Dies.— The Bishop of Gloucester (Dr. Wilfred Askwith) died yesterday, aged 72. He was best known for three campaigns—against horror comics, persons who “cashed in” on sex, and road hogs, the “Daily Mail” said.—London, July 17.
