ROAD TO BENMORE

Strengthening Approved

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 18.

Highway 83. the stretch of road between Timaru and Benmore. will be strengthened to carry heavy traffic at the joint expense of the National Roads Board and the New Zealand Electricity Department This was approved by the National Roads Board today. It is expected that over a period some 20 to 30 heavy loads of machinery for the undertaking will have to travel along this road These loads will be of up to 80 tons. On the part of the road administered by the Christchurch District Roads Council £15.460 will be spent in strengthening bridges and the road surface to take ’hese loads. Similar work on the section administered bv the Dunedin District Roads Council W’ill cost £9lOO.
