FIVE PERSONS INJURED
Two Accidents In Ten Minutes
Five persons were injured in two accidents which occurred within 10 minutes of each other in the city yesterday. Both occurred shortly after 4 p.m.
Two men were injured when a light truck was involved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Madras street and Oxford terrace. Both vehicles were badly damaged. Mr Kenneth Walter Gidley. of 704 Ferry road, a passenger in the truck, was treated for minor abrasions at the Christchurch Hospital and sent home. Mr Colin Joseph Drabble, of 56 Carnarvon street, the driver of the car, was admitted to the hospital with head injuries. His condition last evening was given as satisfactory. A few minutes later two women and a man were injured when the car in which they were travelling overturned after being involved in a collision with another car. The accident occurred at the intersection of Bealey avenue and Manchester street.
Miss Dorothy May McKessar of 202 Knowles street, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital with head injuries. Mrs Gladys Minnie Smith and Mr Cyril Kingston Smith, both of 28 Roosevelt avenue, were treated and sent home. Mr Smith suffered chest injuries and Mrs Smith suffered head injuries. Both cars were badly damaged and traffic at the intersection was impeded by the cars blocking part of the road. A traffic officer directed traffic.
Last evening the hospital described Miss McKessar’s condition as satisfactory and comfortable.
