Japan Seeks Talks
(N.Z J*. A. -Reuter—Copy rig ht) TOKYO, July 10. The Japanese Ministry of Finance said today Japan would shortly open negotiations with New Zealand, Australia, and South-east Asian countries for the conclusion or revision of taxation conventions to promote economic relations.
The Ministry said the Government would send two officials to New Zealand to start taxation talks later this month. Japan was likely to hold similar talks With Australia and other countries in South-east Asia later, the Ministry said. The Ministry also said a senior official of the Ministry, Mr Tatsua Murayama, director of the Ministry’s tax bureau, had been touring Southeast Asia to discuss revision of Japan’s existing taxation pacts with Pakistan and Singapore. He is expected to visit Hong Kong to confer with the Hong Kong Government on the possible application of a taxation treaty between Japan and Britain to the Crown Colony. A Press Association message says that the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) tonight confirmed that the arrangement was made sdme time ago for the discussions to take place.
