CHARGE OF PERJURY
Man Sent For Trial (NJZ. Press Association) DUNEDIN. July 11. As a result of an alleged admission by an Owaka fisherman that he had given false evidence in a case in the Dunedin Magistrate’s Court, last August, Rangiamoa Karaitiana. aged 40, a contractor, of Bluff, was charged in the Court today with perjury and subornation. Karaitiana was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on August 14, by Mr J. G. Warrington, S.M. Mr C. C. Fraser, of Invercargill, represented Karaitiana. He reserved his defence and was granted bail. This was fixed at £250 in Karaitiana’s own recognisance, with one surety of £250. Karaitiana was charged with having committed perjury in making false statements while giving evidence on oath when he was charged at Dunedin on August 28 with having been in possession of undersized crayfish tails. He was also charged with procuring the Owaka fisherman, Ronald Graham Page, to state certain things in open court knowing them to be untrue, thereby committing subornation of perjury. The police case was conducted by Detective-Sergeant J. K. Hamilton
