BETTING PLUNGE ON AQUANITA

BRISBANE, July 10.
A mystery Melbourne punter yesterday sparked off a £12,000 Doomben Cup plunge on Australia's top sprinter, Aquanita. The move caused the horse’s quote to topple by half. He is now two points under double figures. A Brisbane commissioner acted for the Melbourne man. It is believed that the commissioner wanted to support Aquanita for £20,000, but alerted bookmakers soon cut the horses’ price and refused to do business for any more big Sums. Aquanita is now a clearcut third favourite for Saturday's Doomben Cup, to be run
over 11 furlongs, less 27 yards. Refulgent is still favourite at one point shorter than each-Way odds. Dhaulagiri is on the second line, two points longer than Refulgent, then there is another gap of two points to Aquanita. which has relegated its stablemate, Rural Loch, to the fourth line. Opinion is that Aquanita will continue to Ann because he has done well since his impressive run in last Saturday’s Doomben Ten Thousand. Refulgent is pleasing the trainer, George Benn. The chestnut went over three circles of the track at Deagon, stridiing out the last mile and a quarter in evens. George Moore' has decided not to ride in the cup, and will return to Sydney for the meeting there on Saturday.
