Opening By P.M. Today (N.Z Press Association/ AUCKLAND. July 8 The Prime Minister <Mr Holyoake) will open the Tasman link of the Commonwealth Pacific telephone cable with a call to the Australian Prime Minister <Mr Menzies) at 3.45 p m tomorrow Mr Holyoake will make the call from the Auckland Town Hall Concert Chamber through the new international exchange on the third floor of Civic House, Auckland, to Australia As soon as the Prime Minister finishes his call international operators will begin transferring from wireless circuits boards to the nine cable boards as wireless calls are completed. From that moment all calls to Australia will be made along the cable Mr Holyoake will open the link at the Auckland end at an official ceremony in the Concert Chamber at 3 p.m The wireless international exchange was shifted from Wellington to Auckland to facilitate the change-over to the cable link on which testing has been continuing for the last month.
