LICENCES FOR RESTAURANT
Application From New Brighton
An apnlication to the Licensing Control Commission for a licensed restaurant in Christchurch has been made by Mr L H Duffield, proprietor of the Pier tea-rooms at New Brighton Two restaurants, the Maiando and Pinehaven already have been granted licences and an application by the Flamingo is under consideration Mr Duffield said considerable alterations and renovations had been carried out to tie restaurant premises A thousand square feet of floor space was available for dancing or for floor shows He said he did not intend to incorporate the pier into the new restaurant Renovations to the pier were beyond him financially However, the pier still was a major attraction at New Brighton and on a fine day often thousands of persons would visit it.
Psychology Classes.—Three schools had been chosen, including the Christchurch West High School, by the Education Department for girls’ psychological discussion groups, said the headmaster of the school (Mr T R. Richards) at a meeting of the board of governors These were now in progress under a woman psychologist
