ADOPTED GIRL

Mr Eyre Has Problem (NX. Pre** Association) AUCKLAND. July 8. The Minister of Defence (Mr Eyre) and his wife have struck a problem over a 13-year-cld Sea-Dyak girl from Sarawak whom they adopted late last year because she looked remarkably like their own daughter. Her preliminary schooling was financed by the Eyres because her parents could not afford it. They have kept in touch with her through the British district office rthere. But the girl. Demi Anak Ngalang, has turned down an offer to go to boarding school at the Eyres’ expense because she wants to stay with her parents. "It seems like a closed book now, but it is a pity we couldn’t have done more for her. She was strikingly like my own daughter,” said Mrs Eyre yesterday. The Eyres had even planned a visit to New Zealand for the girl. It is understood that this has now been called off.

Mr and Mrs Eyre met Demi while touring Sarawak last year.

President’s Father. Mr Joseph Kennedy, father of the President, who is recovering from a stroke, is expected to leave a New York clinic in the near future to join other members of the Kennedy family at Hyannisport. Massachusetts, White House officials said.—Washington, July 7.
