Badminton N.Z. Champion Wins N.I. Title

(N Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NTH., July 8. D. B. Higgins, of Wellington, added the North Island men's badminton title to his New Zealand championship when he defeated L. Bristol, of Manawatu, 11-15. 15-1. 17-14, at Feilding on Saturday.

In the final of the women’s singles. Miss G. Tompkins, of Wellington. the top-seeded player, took the North Island title from Miss B. Dent, of Taranaki, winning 11-5. 11-6.

First Success Since 1955 In a representative badminton content in Greymouth on Saturday night. West Coast beat South Canterbury by 13 matches to 3. This was the first occasion upon which West Coast had beaten its opponents since 1955. West Coast was generally expected to be strong in the men's section, but the women created a surprise by winning three of their singles matches The home team's three losses were in the women's doubles and one of the slaries.
