£20,000 FOR CAMPAIGN
Committee May Reject Grant
"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, July 5. The Freedom-from-Hun-ger Campaign Committee will meet next week to decide whether or not it should accept the £20,000 grant from the Golden Kiwi lottery profits. The secretary (the Rev. H. C. Dixon) said that there was a wide divergence of opinion among members on whether the money should be accepted. “There are some who will not accept the money because they believe that gambling is morally wrong.” he said “There are others who see nothing wrong in it. “It will be up to the committee to decide whether the grant should be accepted or not. “The whole point of the matter is that we knew nothing about the grant. We didn’t ask for the money.” Mr Dixon said the campaign committee is made up of approximately 60 members representing about 45 organisations. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz) said today that he had no comment to make on the organisation’s reaction to the grant. He said he would await some official approach from the campaign committee.
