The behaviour and road courtesy of Christchurch motorists drew criticism from Mr L. V. Etwell, chairman of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce’s transport committee. when the chamber’s council met last evening. Certain aspects of driving were not receiving sufficient emphasis. Mr Etwell said. He mentioned behaviour at traffic lights, inconsiderate parking. and the making of righthand turns at light-controlled intersections

“We have sent a letter to the City Council asking that its traffic officers supervise these matters more closely." he said

The transport committee would support the complete abolition of right-hand turns at light-controlled intersections. said Mr Etwell. Mr R. E. Smith pointed out that the Lions Club had already launched a campaign to encourage courtesy when driving.
