Winter Theme For Decoration

Most plants stop growing at this time of the* year, and the choice available for floral decorating becomes very limited. Making do with what there is can be a stimulating challenge to the imagination. The arrangement shown in the sketch brings a suggestion of winter right into the home: and perhaps the contrast makes the oleasant glow of a Are all the more appreciated The few materials used tn this arrangement—which can be placed either against a wall or on a low table in the middle of the room—are all readily available now A black dish is used as a base It does not matter if there is a pattern in the middle as this will not be seen. Take an interestinglyshaped. gnarled piece of wood, or even a piece of
bark and stand it on its edge in the middle of the dish, supported on both sides by either two pieces of plasticine or two pinholders—whichever seems better. Now take two sprigs of pine needle and stand them in the two supports (the olasticine or the ninholders) One of these bunches of pine needles should be tall enough to come above the level of the niece of wood while the other should be somewhat shorter The bunches should be bushy around the base so that they hide most of the holders Tapioca is used to create the effect of snow in the little woodland scene that ha' been created Sprinkle it over the dish, completely concealing any of the container still showing, and add realism by having “drifts" rather higher under the branch. Finally add two or three china model animals (or lead toys if necessary! to complete the scene This Is a good opportunity to get some ornaments down off the shelves and to put them out where they will have a fresh impact on the family. In the arrangement sketched, two robin redbreasts were used, their bright colours giving warmth to rhe arrangement If the arrangement is to go on a table in the middle of the room, make sure it is made up to look equally attractive from all angles.
