MR G. P. ANDERSON
Mr George Patrick Anderson, who was employed by the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., for 46 years, died recently, aged 69. Mr Anderson began work with the company on the inter-colonial run, and on the outbreak of World War I joined the Australian Infantry Forces. Too young to serve overseas, he returned to New Zealand, and served in France with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, attaining the rank of warrant officer. Mr Anderson was claims clerk, and later freight manager, for the Union Steam Ship Company in Christchurch. After his retirement he worked for two years for Pyne. Gould, Guinness Ltd., supervising local and overseas shipping. He was a past-president and secretary of St. Mary’s Hibernian Lodge, and was president of the Christchurch Contract Bridge Club. Mr Anderson is survived by his wife, three sons, and two daughters.
