WATER SAFETY CAMPAIGN
11.482 Taught To Swim From returns to hand, the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association could record with considerable pride a total of 11,482 persons taught to swim in 1961-62. said the secretary of the association (Miss D Brown) in a report on the water safety campaign to the council of the national body last night It was regrettable, said Miss Brown, that no club returns had been received from A-hburton and Taranaki centres, and two others. South Canterbury and West Coast, had sent no returns whatever “We must look to centres and clubs to still further improve this situation before we can present a really true picture of the water safety campaign," said Miss Brown. Better organisation was evident in the centres, the report added. This included methods of grading tuition, more extensive advertising, greater cooperation by parents and more attention to general water safety measures.
Financing N.Z. Swimmers The raising of money to finance the trip to Perth by any swimmers named in the B category of the New Zealand Empire Games team should be a task shared by all swimming centres tn the Dominion. the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association decided last night. It decided to write to all centres, seeking their reactions to a suggestion of a lew of Is a member being fixed for this purpose, arid asking for any other thoughts on the raising of money.
The chairman (Mr A J. Donaldson) said there was no knowing how many swimmers would be placed in the category. but It was as well to be prepared.
