MARRIAGES BY REGISTRAR
One In Five
Marriages by registrar in Christchurch are increasing, according to figures released by the Registrar of Births, Deaths, and Marriages (Mr J. Millar). More than one marriage in every five this year has been by registrar. There have been 1004 marriage notices issued for the first half of the year and 212 have been by registrar. Although deaths have dropped by 27 for June compared with last year, they show a rise of 58 for the year so far. Births for June were one up on last year, but births are following the upward trend of recent years. There were 50 more births for the first half of the year than for the same period last year. Figures for June, with those for last year in parenthesis, are:—Births, 457 (456); deaths, 240 <267): marriage notices issued. 105 ( 94U marriages by registrar, 34 (31).
Figures for the year so far are:—Births. 2942 <2892 >; deaths, 1124 (1166); marriage notices issued, 1004 (945); marriages by registrar, 212 (189).
