CONTROL OF ANIMALS

Visits By L.S„ N.Z., Experts Studies to aid the control of New Zealand's introduced mammals are to be made in New Zealand by an American, and outside New Zealand by a member of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. Tomorrow, Dr. W. E. Howard, of the University of California, Davis. California, will arrive from the United States to conduct a wide investigation into the Dominion’s research and control programme affecting these animals. He is coming at the invitation of the D.S.I.R. and the New Zealand Forest Service, and will give them a formal report. He will be here for about a year.

On July 11, Dr. K. Wodzicki, director of the Animal Ecology Division of the D.5.1.R., will leave on a three-month visit to Europe and North America to become acquainted with recent research into the ecology and life-histories of mammalian species introduced into New Zealand.

Dr. Howard was in New Zealand in 1957 as a Fulbright scholar. He studied the rabbit problem here, and wrote a D.S.I.R information bulletin giving his findings. Dr. Wodzicki will visit research stations in the Netherlands, Denmark, England, Scotland, and the United States.
