10-9 Score At Dunedin "The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. June 26. Xavier College had a narrow yet convincing 10-9 win (two tries, converted, to two penalty goals and a try) over Christian Brothers' High School in the annual inter-school Rugby game at Hancock Park today. Although it won by only one ooint. Xavier College deserved Its victory. . The forwards were evenly matched, but the Xavier backs were superior. Their handling, passing, and tackling were all better than those of the Christian Brothers' backs. Almost all the Xavier backs ran with more purpose and determination than their opponents Playing with the advantage of a strong cross wind, Christian Brothers led 6-0 at half-time. After Xavier had scored a try. which was converted, early in’ the half, the home side went further ahead midway through the second spell with a try. but a try beside the posts, which was converted, gave Xavier College the lead and the game. Among the best of the Xavier forwards were the locks. J. Peebles and P. Consedine. Both were prominent in the line-outs, and Consedine. especially, played with great dash in the loose The hooker. N. Harnett, as well as taking several scrums against the head, bobbed up frequently in the open. The pick of the Xavier backs were P. Robertson at full-back, who "made” his side's last try with a fine centre kick, and the second five-eighths. A. Amos. Christian Brothers' points came from penalty goals kicked by K. Holmes and P. Scoones. and a try scored by R. McLean. For Xavier. A. Amos and P. O’Malley scored tries, and P. Robertson kicked two conversions. Mr J. R. Milnes was referee.
