MILLARD STAND
Athletic Park Opening (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. June 24. Athletic Park had one of its greatest days yesterday with the official opening of the huge Millard stand. The stand carried its biggest crowd yet as it was opened by the Mayor. Mr F J. Kitts, just before the specially-arranged AucklandWellington fixture. Earlier, under the eastern stand, Mr J. N. Millard, chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union for the last 25 years and an administrator for 47 years, was guest of honour at an official luncheon. Many noted Rugby erithusi. asts. administrators. both provincial and national, and other guests, including the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Nash) and representatives of other sports, heard handsome tributes to Mr Millard. Responding. Mr Millard said: “When I have strutted and fretted all my days on the Rugby stage, my greatest satisfaction will be to know that my name is still associated with Athletic Park. I never think of anything 1 have done for Rugby football because any men does it for the pleasure and satisfaction he gets out of it.”
