Botanic Gardens Fence

Sir. —As an old resident of the Botanic Gardens and Rolleston avenue area. I endorse all that Cr. Guthrey has said about the stone and iron fence which is being erected in place of the holly hedge. I think that it is deplorable, and it detracts from the peaceful and quiet atmosophere of the avenue. In my opinion a green live fence is a more suitable setting to the gardens. A holly hedge is practically permanent and is an emblem of England.—Yours, etc.. E.R.O. June 25, 1962.
