Sportsman's Notebook Soccer Tourney Reaches Final Rounds

With the preliminary 1 rounds of the Rothman's < soccer tournament now com- i pleted in all centres, national J semi-finals and finals will i now be played early in July Canterbury’s champion team. Western, will play Northern, of Dunedin, in Christchurch ' on July 7, and again in Dun- ; edin on July 21. The winner of this semi- i final will go on to contest I the national final later in the season, again cm a home-and-away basis. If. in a semi-final, each team wins one match, the winner will be determined on the goal , totals. If these are also equal, the winner will be de- . cided by lot. , The North Island semi- ■ finalists are Northern, of Wellington. and Eastern , Suburbs, of Auckland In winning the local championship, Western has already gained £lOO of the Rothman's prize-money. This has been allocated to the preliminary winner in each of the four centres. The winner of each semi-final home-and-away game will win £5O. with another £5O to the winner of each semi-final on aggregate. For the final, each of the home-and-away games will carry another £lOO, with a further £lOO for the national chamoion club side Western will no doubt find Northern a hard opponent. The Dunedin side includes several who have represented New Zealand, including D. McVev, J. Stephenson. J Rae and W. Berry, and a number of Otago representatives, including P Little, G. Little. B. Campbell, J Ferguson, and A. Young. The brothers Little, and Young and Ferguson, have played for the South Island. ¥ ¥ ¥ Indoor Bowls Indoor bowlers will be busy during the coming week-end, with two rnaior fixtures to be played. Lee, who was considered to be a player of much promise after the New Zealand Rugby League team's tour of England and France last year, has been relegated to the Central Districts club's senior reserve team in Auckland. A second row forward. Lee played for the national coaching school 13 against Australia last year and played in two tests against England and all three against France while on tour.
