Clerks Seeking More Pay

In view of the precedent set by inspectors when they obtained a pay rise during the currency of their award, it was only’ fair to deal with the clerical union on th-e same basis, said the chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) at a meeting of the board yesterday. “I am not in favour of amending awards—which are contracts—during their currency.” Mr Bradshaw said. The union sought a review of salaries for A grade clerks. It will be advised to cite its claims for a new agreement which, when concluded, can be substituted for the existing agreement, which will terminate on December 8 this year.
