Assurance To Lyttelton J

As the result of complaints from Lyttelton residents about the noise caused by the ventilating fan at the road tunnel site, the Mayor of Lyttelton <Mr J. B. Collett) told the council last evening that he had approached the tunnel authorities and had been informed that efforts would be made to keep it to a minimum. The noise, however, would have to be borne for about two months. Mr Collett said. After seeing the conditions under which the tunnel was worked, he felt the men needed all the assistance the tan could give them. When blasting commenced at the Lyttelton end. Mr Collett said, a system of warning would be provided, through a good public relations service. But there would be nd tunnel without some noise and blasting.
