OBJECTIONS TO PLAN
Waimairi County Hearings
The first of the 320 objections and counter objections to the Waimairi County Council's district planning scheme were heard yesterday by the council’s town planning committee (Messrs A. E. Wagner, chairman. J. I. Coliigan, H. J. Reynolds and J. W. Green>. The committee reserved its decisions. The committee heard 10 objections presented by the council’s town planning officer (Mr R. M. Parker) on behalf oi the council. Mr Parker asked the committee to amend the zoning of an area on Waimairi road between Wentworth street and Annandale street from commercial A to residential A. He said that the present number of shops was sufficient for the area. His application was supported by Mr A. H. Cavell and Mr A. Carter who made brief submissions and five other persons who did not appear.
An amendment from residential A to industrial A was sought for a section on Belfast road between Certified Concrete. Ltd., and Northern Cash Timbers. Ltd. Application was made for an area of land on the corner of Highsted road and and Sawyers Arms road was Parker to be zoned commercial A instead of residential A. Rezoning of 13 acres of land between Veitchs road and Sawyers Arm road was sought. The land had been zoned commercial A for the purpose of building an openair theatre. The new zoning sought was to residential A. To conform with the new road between Ham road and Waimairi road, Mr Parker asked or a change in the proposed road pattern to conform with roads under construction. Two objections in support were received for the rezoning of land on the south-west corner of Harewood road and Trafford street from residential A to industrial C. Other amendments sought by Mr Parker were the zoning of a 40-acre area in Heyders road for use as a plantation: the zoning of chains of road frontage on the north-west corner of Wairakei road and Wooldridges road from rural zoning to industrial A and the rezoning of two sections in Waimairi road from residential A to reserves as university lands
