NEW HALL OPENED

Paparoa School Ceremony Six years of raising funds ended on Saturday when pupils and parents packed the Paparoa Street Primary School hall for its official opening. The .hall was made possible only by the energy, enthusiasm and devotion of parents. said Mr H. J Walker. M.P. for St. Albans. In the history of the school there was probably no bigger moment than the climax of the hall project. It would be a centre for the adult community as well as for the children. "It is with a great sense of pride in the parents of this school that I officially declare the school hall open,” Mr Walker said. Mrs C. G. Holland, a member of the Canterbury Education Board, presented the keys to the headmaster (Mr H. I. Turnbull). Speakers were introduced by Mr L. M. Reynolds, chairman of the school committee.

Mr Turnbull spoke of the efforts of the school’s parentteacher association, and the school committee to raise the school's £3OOO share towards the £7OOO hall.

Finished inside with pastel wallboard and stained pine, the hall is 30ft wide and 60ft long. This does not include a stage, kitchen and cloakrooms.

High on the wall at one end is a platform for projecting films. Infra-red heaters are mounted on walls throughout the building.
