Situation.—-A depression in the north Tasman Sea is deepening and moving towards the North Island. A cold front moving rapidly eastwards across the south Tasman Sea is expected to reach the south of the South Island this morning. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh north to northwest winds; becoming cloudy in the afternoon and scattered showers advancing from the south later today; temperatures rising. Outlook: partly cloudy. Marlborough and Nelson.—North-west winds predominating, becoming fresh about the Sounds later; fine at first, cloud increasing later, with a few showers about the Sounds; moderate temperatures. Outlook: showery about the Sounds and Kaikoura coast; partly cloudy elsewhere. Westland and Buller.—Moderate to fresh north to north-west winds; overcast, with occasional showers turning to more general rain this afternoon; moderate temperatures. Outlook: unsettled.
