Man Arrested And Charged

One hundred and thirty organ pipes were stacked in one of the detective offices in the Central Police Station yesterday. A married man, aged 34, was arrested late yesterday afternoon and will appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning on a charge of breaking an<j entering a place of public worship. St. Paul's Church. Harewood road, and committing theft Police say that other charges are pending.

The arrest was made by Detective-Constable A. Adcock. who was assisted by Detective S Main. The man was held in the cells at the Central Police Station last night. Since last September.* organ pipes have been reported missing in at least seven Anglican churches in Canterbury. In most cases, the loss was reported by Mr J Strachan, a Christchurch or-gan-builder who inspects many of the church organs in Canterbury

The pipes were usually missing from the upper registers of the organs and because they were rarely used, the performance of the organs was not affected unless a large number of pipes had gone.
